Mayor Abed’s Town Hall Meeting

Date:                Wednesday, May 17, 2017

Start Time:       4:00 PM

End Time:        5:00 PM

Location:

Council Chambers

201 North Broadway
Escondido, CA 92025-2798

Unlike the regular City Council meetings where Mayor Abed and other members of the council cannot answer questions, during a town hall the Mayor will respond to all questions asked of him.  Let’s get out to this event and ask the Mayor where he stands on the proposed, “The Villages” development currently being processed in the City. Will he support what the majority of people in ECC want?  Let’s tell him that 392 houses are too many!   See you at the town hall.

ECCHO wants to see a reasonable, responsible project that preserves the benefit of open space.

ROCC is not ECCHO

You’ve seen the handful of signs in our neighborhood from a group called ROCC – Restore Our Country Club.  They are supporting the proposal of 392 houses being crammed into our neighborhood.

DON’T BE FOOLED!

ECCHO Public Statement

Supporters of New Urban West and Michael Schlesinger claim that ECCHO wants nothing but a golf course on the Country Club site. That claim is a falsehood. The lie is intended to make the community appear stubborn in pursuit of an inflexible demand. The opposite is true.

Certainly, ECCHO regrets the loss of the golf course as an open space asset. And, it's true that ECCHO opposes the dreadful specter of 392 houses being crammed into the neighborhood. But ECCHO's opposition is not based upon a demand for an 18-hole golf course. ECCHO simply wants to see a reasonable, responsible project that preserves the benefit of some open space. In fact, ECCHO paid for an initial study that suggested the housing density had to be capped at 158 units. Completion of that study by residents in the area suggested a cap of 137 units.

ECCHO's purpose is not to revive the original golf course. Rather, its goal is to promote the preservation of open space and recreational assets in a project that will enhance the neighborhood.

Mike Slater,
ECCHO President

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS!

Wednesday, October 12, 2016
Friends and neighbors -

ECCHO has come out in support of Joe Garcia for City Council in District 3.   His opponent is Olga Diaz.  While we cannot vote for him directly, since ECC is in District 2, we can support his candidacy and need to do so.

He's a man of integrity and will be the impartial third vote when the time comes for a developer to submit a plan to the City of Escondido.   He is pro-development, but stresses that it must be the right project in the right location.  He does not support the development of 392 homes on the ECC property.  Joe will listen to all sides, make a fair decision, then stand by his vote.  His word is his bond

We NEED Joe Garcia on the City Council!  Please VOLUNTEER today to help distribute flyers and walk his neighborhoods.  We've done it before and we can do it again!  We have less than four (4) weeks to protect our neighborhood.   VOLUNTEER TODAY!  Give what time you can.  Thank you in advance!

ECCHO BOARD ENDORSEMENT OF JOE GARCIA

Tuesday, October 11, 2016

ECCHO is a duly formed public service corporation governed by its stated purpose - to preserve and protect the open space and recreational features of the Escondido Country Club neighborhood. Toward that end, ECCHO advanced its Open Space Initiative, and opposed Proposition H, the developer's ballot measure that would have authorized the construction of 400 homes on the Country Club property.

Now, the November 2016 election presents another issue vital to the Country Club community. The City Council election in District Three presents two candidates; Joe Garcia and Olga Diaz. Ms. Diaz has consistently voted against the interests of our community. She actively campaigned in favor of the developer who wanted to subdivide the neighborhood. She is an outspoken opponent of ECCHO and its principles. Joe Garcia, on the other hand, has been a willing listener when presented with our issues. He has pledged to consider the property rights of the long-time land owners in the Country Club community. ECCHO has a stake in this City Council race. The winner will be voting on the future land use decisions important to us.

The ECCHO Board finds that Joe Garcia would be a principled, caring steward of the land use decisions of the City of Escondido. Therefore, the Board has voted, unanimously, to endorse Joe Garcia for election to the Third District City Council seat.

ECCHO BOARD REVIEWS COMMUNITY RESPONSE TO NUW OPEN HOUSE

Wednesday, August 17, 2016

The ECCHO Board has completed a review of the responses to New Urban West’s (NUW) Open House held July 16 and 17.  We received over 100 emails from community members. NUW collected over 400 comment cards.   Both groups redacted name, address, and other personal information, then exchanged the commentary on August 7.  As explained below, the biggest message we drew from our analysis is that the community needs more information from NUW before it can decide on any development proposal in the neighborhood.

Feedback on NUWI Open House

Tuesday, August 9, 2016

Today, ECCHO Board representatives will be receiving comment cards submitted to New Urban West Inc. (NUWI) after their open house 3 weeks ago. At the same time, we will make available to NUWI the many email comments ECCHO has received in reaction to the same presentation. This exchange of information was agreed upon by both NUWI and the ECCHO Board shortly after their open house. ECCHO has redacted all personal information from the emails we received prior to making them available to NUWI. It is our understanding that NUWI has done the same with their comment cards.

New Urban West Open House Invitation

Wednesday, July 6, 2016
The ECCHO Board continues to remain neutral regarding New Urban West Inc.'s vision for the Escondido Country Club property, but we encourage you to attend an open house and express your views.
The ECCHO Board would also appreciate hearing feedback from those who attend an open house either by email or by directly talking to a Board member.
Kind Regards,
ECCHO Board of Directors
